Edna Valley Chardonnay 2001

A warm spring, mild summer and a pleasant fall in 2000 resulted in an early and long harvest that produced the exquisite quality that the Edna Valley appellation is known for. The clean and abundant crop gave us variety and complexity with both fruit and mineral characters combining for a superbly balanced wine. This rich, multi-layered wine starts with an enticing nose and lasts to the smooth finish. The aromas of ripe white peach and grapefruit give way to crisp mineral tones. The mouthfeel is full and soft, hinting at the many facets and flavors to come. White peach, apple, tropical fruit and citrus combine with vanilla and oak to round out this wonderful elixir. The 2000 Chardonnay is a versatile food wine that complements both simple and complex culinary creations. Try it with sautéed Alaskan halibut and a Dungeness crab hollandaise sauce.
