Cointreau Unveils New Viral Webisode Campaign for Cinco de Mayo Holiday, Starring International Sensation Dita Von Teese
Cointreau, one of the world's most celebrated spirits, is pleased to announce the release of a new "Cointreauversial" short film series, starring international fashion icon and queen of burlesque, Dita Von Teese. The provocative episodes give consumers a historical perspective on Cointreau's role in the invention of three of the world's most iconic cocktails, transporting viewers to the time and place of their original creation. Veering from her traditional role on-stage, Dita Von Teese is now in front of the camera to star in three different episodes, each time playing a different character that is integral to the invention of each classic cocktail. The first film, which focuses on the birth of the original margarita recipe with Cointreau, as created by well-known Texas socialite, Margarita Sames, will be released for Cinco de Mayo on May 5, 2010.
As Margarita Sames has expressed, it was in Acapulco in 1948 when, at one of her famed cliffside hacienda parties, she began experimenting with "the drink" that would later be named in her honor. Looking for something refreshing to combat the humid afternoon, she mixed top-shelf tequila, Cointreau – a staple in her bar -and fresh lime juice. Her cocktail was so sensational, that it kept the party going for two full weeks! Not long after Margarita's legendary soiree, the Margarita cocktail caught fire across the globe and is today the most popular cocktail in the United States by measure of sales.
Dita Von Teese is often cited as a muse by famous faces in fashion, lingerie, movies and music, and her talents are now expanding into film. In a departure from her burlesque performances, Von Teese is in full period wardrobe in the Cointreau webisode series. Well known for her fascination with 1940s cinema, specifically Betty Grable, Von Teese's starring role in the classic Cointreau campaign seems a natural transition for the multi-talented starlet.
