Bethesda, Md. - February 27, 2008 - American Beverage Licensees (ABL) today confirmed its support of Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. and the National Center for DWI Courts (NCDC) for their continued efforts to eliminate hard core and repeat drunk driving. In an announcement last month, Beam Global pledged a significant increase in financial and program support for NCDC in 2008. NCDC, a part of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP), raises awareness about the effectiveness of DUI Courts and provides training and research to court personnel.

DUI Courts provide long-term, ongoing accountability and treatment in addition to conviction for hardcore and repeat drunk driving offenders. DUI Courts incorporate criminal justice stakeholders and alcohol treatment professionals in addressing repeat and hardcore drunk driving offenders. Research from the state of Georgia has shown that DUI Court graduates are four times less likely to have a new DUI arrest after two years.

"It is clear that the traditional criminal process is not enough for repeat drunk driving offenders," stated Harry Wiles, executive director, American Beverage Licensees. "ABL is an ardent supporter of the Beam Global and NCDC partnership. We believe this is a model that works and where key stakeholders can come together to stop drunk driving - a cause that everyone can get behind. This partnership also illustrates that the alcohol industry and legal community can work together to find proven solutions that are effective in the battle against drunk driving."

This past month, ABL launched a toolbox, "Effective Traffic Safety Solutions to Stop Drunk Driving." The toolbox offers best practices to effectively tackle drunk driving and highlights programs and strategies that help prevent the problem. The information highlights DUI Courts and also points to research that illustrates the effectiveness of combining treatment and conviction for repeat and hardcore offenders.
