Cinco de Mayo Cocktail Recipes

It's almost time for Cinco de Mayo. On Thursday, May 5, as many celebrate Mexico's culture and traditions, the Jose Cuervo family of brands will be the brand of choice - the original Tequila, Jose Cuervo was around before Mexico was established as a republic.

Jose Cuervo recently announced the launch of Jose Cuervo Authentic Light Margarita and the brand's non-alcoholic, "Zero Calorie" Margarita Light Mix, both offer a way to celebrate while watching calories.

As always Diageo encourages consumers to Drink Responsibly. To cap off the holiday in style: consumer can use Cuervo's free Cue the Cab app, where you can "cue" a taxi quickly and easily for a safe ride home.

Jose Cuervo Authentic Light Margarita

Jose Cuervo recently launched Jose Cuervo Authentic Light Margarita. With fewer than 100 calories per serving, now you can have a delicious margarita and save your calories for your favorite Mexican dish!

Jose Cuervo Authentic Light Margarita is made ready-to-serve, using Jose Cuervo Especial Gold, the No. 1-selling Tequila in the world, Triple Sec and a twist of lime.

  • Glass: rocks or margarita

What better day to sip a Tradicional Bandera than on Cinco de Mayo. Take the shot to the next level!
  • 1 oz. Cuervo Tradicional
  • 1 oz. sangrita
  • 1 oz. lime juice

Fill a shot glass with tequila. Fill a shot glass with sangrita. Fill a shot glass with lime juice. Sip from each shot glass in order described above.

Tradicional Paloma
Try the Tradicional Paloma this Cinco and it will become part of your bar call all year round!
  • 1 oz. Tradicional Silver
  • 3 oz. Squirt or Grapefruit Soda

Pour Tequila and Grapefruit Soda over ice in a highball glass and garnish with a lime.

Peach Margarita
If frozen margaritas are you weakness, try a summer peach recipe.
  • 1 1/2 oz. Cuervo Especial Gold (25 oz. per bottle)
  • 3 oz. Jose Cuervo Lime Margarita Mix
  • 8 oz. canned diced peaches in heavy syrup
  • 4 oz. crushed ice
  • Optional: lime wedge or peach slice

Rub rim of a margarita glass with half a lime. Dip into sugar. In a blender, add Cuervo Especial Gold, margarita mix, peaches, and crushed ice. Mix ingredients in blender until smooth. Pour into the glass. Optional: Garnish with lime wedge or peach slice.

Pina Perfection Margarita

  • 1 1/4 oz. Tequila Don Julio Anejo
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. fresh pineapple juice
  • Fresh rosemary
  • 1/4 oz. simple syrup
  • Sprig of fresh rosemary for garnish

Muddle fresh rosemary into a cocktail shaker. Add Don Julio Anejo, fresh lime juice, fresh pineapple juice, and simple syrup into the cocktail shaker. Shake well and strain into a highball glass. Garnish with sprig of fresh rosemary.

Bebida de Puebla
  • 2 oz. Cabo Wabo Tequila Reposado
  • 1/4 oz. Benedictine Liqueur
  • 1/4 oz. Coffee Liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. Lustau Dry Amontillado Sherry
  • LosArcos Lemon Peel

Stir all ingredients with ice in a chilled mixing glass. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Spray and garnish with a lemon peel.

Bucking Borracho
  • 2 oz. Cabo Wabo Tequila Reposado
  • 1/4 oz. Ginger Syrup
  • 1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 oz. Lime Juice
  • 2 dashes Blended Chocolate Bitters(equal parts Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate and Bitter Truth Xocolati Bitters)
  • 1 1/2 oz. Ginger Beer
  • Lemon Slice
  • Mint Sprig

In a shaker mix tequila, ginger syrup, lemon juice, lime juice and chocolate bitters with ice. Shake and strain into an iced highball, leaving enough room to top with chilled ginger beer. Garnish with lemon and mint.

Horns Up!

Pico de Plata
  • 1 part jalapeno infused Hornitos Plata Tequila*
  • 1/2 part fresh pineapple juice
  • 1/4 part red pepper puree**
  • 1/4 part fresh lime juice
  • Dash Bitter Truth celery bitters
  • Salt and pepper to rim glass

Shake and strain in to a salt and pepper rimmed shot glass.

*Cut the skin off the jalapeno, and soak the seeds and pith of three (3) jalapenos per 750ml bottle of Hornitos Plata Tequila for 30 minutes, or to taste.

** Remove stems, seeds and veins from a red pepper. Toss into blender and puree until smooth.
