I know this may be a stupid question but...
how many ounces are in a shot of hard liquor? (whiskey shot, tequilla shot, vodka shot etc.)

It varies from 1 ounce to 1 1/2 ounces. I believe if you order a shot of alcohol in a bar it is 1 ounce.

an ounce of any liquor should be one ounce...if your asking what amount of liquor is in a drink, it is usually 1 to 1.5 ounces though there are many exceptions (i.e. a martini up has 2 ounces of gin or vodka, while a manhattan up--made with bourbon--has 1.5 ounces if served "up")
